Numerous studies have shown that racial and ethnic minorities, as well as women, are still woefully underrepresented in technology roles. However, the retail tech industry doesn't just have a diversity issue; there's an inclusivity issue as well. At a session focused on diversifying your tech workforce during last month's Total Retail Tech event in Nashville, panelists noted that to truly drive change there needs to be more diverse and inclusive workplaces, and that starts with inclusive talent recruitment and development.

In this clip from the panel discussion, speakers Sneha Narahalli, vice president and head of product at Sephora; Manju Thomas, senior vice president of engineering, Stitch Fix; and Ayana Parsons, senior partner of board and CEO inclusion, Korn Ferry, discuss the progress that has been made to infuse DEI into retailers' daily practices, and how much work there's still to be done. As Narahalli said, there's "less tolerance for talk without action" — employees are holding themselves and their leadership teams accountable, and not relying on someone else to drive the conversation forward.
