Retailers such as Amazon.com, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, eBay and others are adding same-day delivery to their list of services to meet the demands of today's 24/7 consumers. However, unless you have an unlimited budget and established distribution infrastructure, it can be hard to compete with the big boys of retail. In addition, some wonder if same-day delivery is even worth it.
During the recent Retail Marketing Virtual Conference & Expo, Doug Sternberg, executive vice president of client strategy at Dotcom Distribution, a third-party fulfillment and logistics provider, addressed how retailers could differentiate themselves from larger retailers, as well as offered tips to create a more efficient inventory management strategy and how to compete with brands offering same-day shipping. In this audio snippet, Sternberg shares his top four shipping tips retailers need to know before the 2014 holiday season. (Register for on-demand access to all of the sessions from the show.)
"The point is really to make sure you start planning for the holidays and start looking at the smallest details," said Sternberg.
