The U.S. Postal Service is adding package delivery on Sundays during the holidays to meet the expected growing demand as online retailers ship more products to customers. In a press release sent out yesterday, the USPS said it would be delivering packages seven days a week in major cities and high-volume areas starting Nov. 17 through Christmas Day in response to expected double-digit package volume growth.

Catalogers were hopeful yet still cautious regarding the proposals laid out in the U.S. Postal Service's five-year business plan, which was presented by Postmaster General and CEO Patrick Donahoe at the spring 2012 directXchange Conference by NEMOA in Boston yesterday.
The U.S. Postal Service will delay the closing or consolidation of additional post office or mail processing facilities until May 15, 2012. The USPS said that it made the decision in response to a request made by multiple U.S. Senators.
The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is in the midst of a sweeping reorganization and change in focus, which began with the October 2010 appointment of a new postmaster general, followed by significant organizational changes in January, which will continue for some months to come.
