Costco, Nordstrom Refuse To Ruin Thanksgiving
The holiday shopping pandemonium has commenced. With the holiday shopping season six days shorter this year than last year, retailers have made the decision to open on Thanksgiving night and provide early Black Friday shopping. Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target and others are trying to make the most of the holiday season. However, The Huffington Post Reports that Costco and Nordstrom are standing out by refusing to open on the holiday.
"Stores that are staying closed are also scoring points with shoppers and workers upset about being strong-armed into cutting their Thanksgiving short in order to take full advantage of Black Friday deals. There's a PR benefit to holding out, just as there's a PR benefit to opening early, said Roger Beahm, a marketing professor at Wake Forest University. We know there's a consumer backlash to this."
