Total Retail’s Take: This move reflects Wal-Mart's new strategy of operating faster and cleaner stores in the U.S. Wal-Mart has been looking for ways to get more employees on the sales floor to improve customer service and keep fresh foods in-stock. A study done by Contexts found that the stores with the worst customer service were located in low-income, minority communities. Wal-Mart is trying to turn its image around. Let’s see if impacted workers make the switch from back office to sales floor.
