Bennie Smith, chief privacy officer at New York-based e-marketer DoubleClick, agrees that the privacy statement is a great place to provide disclosures about how customer information is used. But while Smith believes e-commerce sites and marketers have done a great deal to improve site usability, he suggests it’s time to improve how the industry communicates what’s going on behind its Web pages to bolster consumer trust.
