If consumers are leaving carts to purchase in-store, work to facilitate that process instead of putting up roadblocks. Empower consumers by letting them forward their shopping carts to their mobile devices. Or, simply allow consumers to input their email address or mobile phone number to take ownership over their shopping cart in an inbox. Expiration dates on the cart can and should be established. Consumers want control; effective use of direct digital marketing gives it to them.
