Brian Spaly, founder and CEO of Chicago e-tailer Trunk Club, will be resigning, according to a statement earlier this week from parent company Nordstrom. Spaly launched Trunk Club in 2009 as an easy shopping service for men — particularly those who didn’t enjoy hitting the mall. Stylists handpick items to be shipped to customers who try them on at home and send back what they don’t like.
Nordstrom acquired Trunk Club in 2014 for $350 million at a time when the company was growing rapidly. Now, Nordstrom values Trunk Club at just $153 million. Following Spaly’s exit, Trunk Club will remain in Chicago and be headed up by Terry Boyle, the current leader of NordstromRack.com and HauteLook.
