Top 100 Fastest-Growing Retailers: #90 Publix

As we move closer to the end of the year, we wanted to highlight some of the retailers that have found success in 2018, and offer insights into why. For the last several weeks, we've profiled select companies on Total Retail's Top 100 Fastest-Growing Retailers report. This week we feature Publix, a Lakeland, Fla.-based supermarket chain. Below is an excerpt from this year's report, sharing why Publix claimed a spot on the top 100.

Employee-owned Publix has made some changes over the last 12 months, which in part have led to a nearly 2 percent increase in year-over-year sales. For example, Publix, which has 1,200-plus stores located in the Southeast, has tested curbside pickup and grocery delivery in partnership with Instacart. The omnichannel programs are helping the grocer to better connect with consumers, particularly younger generations who have proven more likely to purchase groceries online.

Furthermore, Publix opened new locations for its GreenWise Market banner. The GreenWise Market concept specializes in specialty, natural and organic foods.

“The new GreenWise Market concept features a simplified environment designed to show off our unique and house-made offerings,” said Publix Senior Vice President of Retail Operations Kevin Murphy, in a company press release. “We believe our customers will appreciate our curated selection.”

In addition to connecting with its customers, Publix has worked tirelessly to build stronger relationships with its employees. The grocer prides itself on creating a great company culture and workplace environment.
