How can online retailers improve website stability and availability, particularly through the holiday rush? Web performance expert Ken Godskind offered these recommendations in his recent blog:
- Turn off nonessential third-party content on your site during peak shopping days. Service providers can be under incredible shared load, and you don't need that impacting bounce rates, time on site, etc.
- Reduce third party-calls on mobile websites. Mobile connections aren't efficient at handling multiple simultaneous connections, and this can cause severe web performance problems for users.
- Ensure you're using the latest third-party scripts that are nonblocking or asynchronous.
Web performance is critical throughout the year, but especially during December. Make sure your website is optimized to handle the increased traffic, ensuring a very happy new year for all.
