I'm really excited today! Why? Because the Women in Retail Leadership Circle (WIRLC), sister brand of Total Retail, is announcing the release of its ninth annual list of the Top Women in Retail! Honorees, some of whom were recommended via a survey of our WIRLC members and Inner Circle e-newsletter readers, were chosen based on several criteria, including position within their retail organization, scope of responsibility within that position, career achievements, and involvement within the retail industry.
This annual feature, a joint effort of Total Retail and WIRLC, helps to shine a spotlight on the innovative female minds leading some of the top retail organizations and brands in the industry. In total, there have been 172 female executives included in our Top Women in Retail lists over the past nine years. We're proud to say those women have helped to positively change the course of the industry, and have come from a diverse mix of digital-native startup brands to the biggest of the big-box stores. From starting their own companies to pushing established brands to new heights through their leadership, the women chosen for our Top Women in Retail lists the past nine years have been an inspiration to others in the industry.
And this year's list continues on that strong tradition. Here are the Women in Retail Leadership Circle's 2019 Top Women in Retail:
