Costco Wholesale announced this week that Kenneth Denman will be the newest addition to its board of directors. Denman was most recently CEO of Emotient, which built an artificial intelligence-based platform for measuring facial expressions to predict emotions.
Although online only makes up 4 percent of Costco’s overall sales, the wholesale retailer has been working to improve its online offerings. Tapping a tech expert for its board is an indication of this push into digital. In a statement, Costco board Chairman Jeff Brotman said that Denman is “widely recognized as a pioneer and leader in technology."
Denman also formerly held the CEO position at Openwave Systems, Inc. (since renamed Unwired Planet) and iPass Inc. He's also a member of the boards of directors of Mitek Systems, Motorola Solutions and ShoreTel.
