Should all your systems be on the same platform? Not necessarily. While there can be significant cost advantages in terms of user licenses that accrue when all your systems use the same database, and support is easier when all systems are on the same platform or share a database, beware of letting the platform drive your systems decisions. We’re talking “best” of breed, which means you want to select the system that best addresses your business requirements at a reasonable cost. Everything else being equal, go for the same platform, but if a far superior system from a better vendor is on a different platform, go for quality.
