Uber announced it has entered a partnership with Spirit Halloween offering costume delivery now through Halloween on its app. According to Uber, Spirit Halloween's catalog will be available on Uber's app at the same price as in stores. The ride-hailing app also said that Uber One members can get free delivery and a 5 percent discount on orders over $35. The announcement comes after Spirit Halloween said it has opened a record 1,525 locations this Halloween season. Spirit Halloween joins a growing list of retailers, including Big Lots, Lowe's, Michaels, and Party City, on the Uber app.
Total Retail's Take: As shopping for Halloween costumes and decorations ramps up, the leading brick-and-mortar retailer in the category is trying to make it as easy and convenient as possible for consumers to purchase from it. By partnering with Uber for on-demand delivery, Spirit Halloween offers consumers another way to secure goods in time for the holiday, complementing its extensive — and growing — physical store footprint. As for Uber, it's a smart decision to get into the Halloween business. The National Retail Federation (NRF) forecasts Halloween spending to reach $11.6 billion, with 72 percent of consumers planning to celebrate the holiday. The top categories for spending include costumes ($3.8 billion), decorations ($3.8 billion), and candy ($3.5 billion).
