Sears is partnering with Uber to make its loyalty program more attractive to customers. If loyalty members link their Shop Your Way account to their Uber account, they will get $2 in loyalty points for every Uber trip. The Rider Rewards program is currently available in Chicago and New York City, and will be rolled out nationally soon, the companies said.
Total Retail’s Take: Sears hasn’t reported a profit in five years, and the Shop Your Way loyalty program is the retailer’s leading hope for revival. The program accounted for 75 percent of Sears’ sales in the first half of 2016. Partnering with a leading-edge brand like Uber can only figure to help increase the loyalty program's popularity. The wildly popular ride-sharing service has given users over 2 billion rides to date. Other Shop Your Way partners include Starbucks and Groupon.
