An effective search engine optimization strategy isn’t just about having the right products in the right place when customers are looking for them. Site content and the way in which you present and link to products on your site all contribute to higher rankings in search engine results. In a whitepaper, “20 Organic Search Marketing Tips,” distributed at the eTail conference held earlier this month in Palm Desert, Calif., search marketing services and content provider LifeTips offered the following tips on providing better content and increasing the popularity of your site.
1. Don’t provide content, provide solutions. More than just information relevant to your brand, great content should provide customers and prospects with insights they can really use. Offer clear, simple, easy-to-understand tips about how your products can be used to make your customers’ lives better, “By solving their problems and improving their lives, you’ll earn their trust,” LifeTips officials write.
2. Write for readers, not for search spiders. While it’s important to use keyword-rich language within the content on your site, if that content is full of keywords but no useful information, readers will be disappointed. Write content that first educates, informs and enlightens and secondarily focuses on spider-driven traffic, LifeTips suggests.
3. Request rich links. When working with affiliates that drive traffic to your site, ensure that the links they use are embedded within content-rich pages, rather than featured as orphaned, stand-alone links, the whitepaper notes. Links surrounded by rich content work in concert with the optimization strategy of your home page or product pages to drive higher search results.
4. Beware of tracker IDs in your URLs. While tracker identification on links helps you measure conversion and sales, search spiders detect that these links are trying to drive profit and will lessen their value in comparison with natural links. “In order to get something (more organic traffic from the search engines),” LifeTips officials caution, “you may have to give something up” such as accountability of your links.
