Black Friday is coming five months early for some retailers. Stores including Target, Sears and Banana Republic are offering deals around the same time as Amazon.com’s Prime Day sale, which occurs tomorrow. Competing retailers are betting that customers in the mood to shop — and maybe do some online price comparison — will head to more than just Amazon.
Total Retail's Take: Amazon has created a new holiday on the shopping calendar, and other retailers don't want to be left out. Therefore, many brands are using Prime Day as an opportunity to drive sales during what's otherwise a slow time of the year. And they're doing this by competing with Amazon on price and delivery speed — at least this week. Will the power of many overtake the power of one (Amazon)?
