Pinterest, the social app and website best known for "pinning" recipes, craft ideas and DIY tips, is the latest platform to offer its users livestream shopping. Pinterest TV is a series of live, original and shoppable episodes featuring product creators that streams on Pinterest.
"Pinterest TV episodes are refreshed each weekday and will be recorded and available for Pinners to view on-demand, and save and rewatch later," the social platform said in announcing the new shopping option on Monday.
Episodes can be found on www.pinterest.com/tv. Beginning Nov. 8, 30-minute episodes will air each weekday on iOS and Android. Each Friday, products will drop in a live shopping setting where users will get access to discounts from brands like Allbirds, Crown Affair, Melody Ehsani, Outdoor Voices, and Mented.
Total Retail's Take: This is a different take on livestream shopping than what other social platforms like Instagram and Facebook Live have introduced. Pinterest TV curates brands that are popular among the social network's audience and invites creators to be the moderators of the episodes.
The launch of Pinterest TV ensures the social media platform doesn't get left behind in the race to be the go-to customer spot for e-commerce, just in time for the holidays. The growth of social commerce is a trend that we've seen take off during the pandemic, as brands look to capture consumers online/virtually where they're spending a large portion of their time. The debut of Pinterest TV is further testament to dynamic.
