PetSmart on Monday unveiled The Pharmacy at PetSmart, an online portal for pet owners to help their animals get the medicines they need, reports PMYNTS.com. According to a company press release, The Pharmacy is a comprehensive, one-stop online destination for the medical needs of cats, dogs and livestock, allowing customers to fill veterinarians' prescriptions and have them shipped directly to them.
To use the service, PetSmart customers with an active vet prescription can go to the company's online pharmacy, find the correct medication and add it to their cart. After providing relevant pet and vet information, customers check out to complete the transaction while PetSmart handles the prescription verification.
Total Retail's Take: As thousands — if not millions — of Americans adopted dogs, cats and other pets during the COVID-19 pandemic, these new pet parents are sure to be looking for a convenient resource to caring for their animal's health. PetSmart recognized the influx of brand-new pet owners, as well as the existing issues around limited access to animal medication through swamped veterinary offices, and created a single solution for both issues.
"The Pharmacy at PetSmart is an exciting new way to help our customers access medications for pets quickly and conveniently," said Kristin Shane, senior vice president of merchandising at PetSmart. "Whether you're ordering your prescriptions for your dog or cat, on petsmart.com or our mobile app, we'll make sure you get exactly what your pet needs to thrive delivered right to your door."
The Pharmacy at PetSmart will offer prescriptions, antibiotics and supplements with convenient, comprehensive service, according to the press release. Current PetSmart shoppers are sure to find this new offering compelling, as long as the pet retailer can deliver an easy prescription verification process and seamless order fulfillment.
