GoodwillFinds, Goodwill's online resale marketplace, announced it stopped taking new orders and was shuttering on March 28, according to its website. The nonprofit thrift chain that operates over 3,300 locations launched GoodwillFinds in 2022, creating its first centralized online business. Thrifted items were listed on the site by various Goodwill stores, which also shipped the products directly to customers.
"We want to express our sincere gratitude for your loyalty and support of GoodwillFinds over the past few years," the company stated on its website.
Goodwill's eBay-style e-commerce site, ShopGoodwill, remains open for shoppers, with products from over 130 Goodwill sellers available for bidding.
Total Retail's Take: With online resale marketplaces proliferating, GoodwillFinds may have struggled to carve out a distinct identity amid the ThredUps, RealReals, and Poshmarks that are dominating the niche industry. And unlike those major resale platforms, GoodwillFinds relied on individual stores to list and ship items, which likely created inconsistencies in inventory management, fulfillment, and customer experience. Together those challenges proved to be too much to overcome, with Goodwill pulling the plug on the online experiment.
