Old Navy has partnered with ride share service app Lyft to offer customers free rides to stores, reports Nasdaq. The Gap Inc. retail brand is making it easier for shoppers to buy online and pick up in-store by offering free round-trip rides to stores on Sat., Dec. 15 and Sat., Dec. 22. Old Navy hopes the convenience of online ordering paired with free rides will attract more customers who might not have wanted to deal with holiday traffic and crowded parking lots. Shoppers who order merchandise on Oldnavy.com and pick up in-store during those two weekends will also receive a free gift wrapping set, including wrapping paper and three gift tags, and be eligible to receive a $5 gift card for their next shopping trip.
Total Retail's Take: This interesting partnership brings consumer convenience to the forefront during a time when both stores and roads can be crowded and overwhelming for shoppers. Old Navy is appealing to customers who might not normally venture to stores during holiday weekends, or who don't want to pay shipping fees on online orders. Consumer interest in buy online, pick up in-store is steadily growing as more customers prefer the convenience of shopping online without having to wait to receive their order, and traditional brick-and-mortar retailers are now finding unique ways to get online orders to customers as quickly and easily as possible. A partnership with a ride service app such as Lyft is a smart way to enable customers to travel to stores easily and for free, which should appeal to several generations of shoppers.
