Amid wider retail industry struggles, including store closings and layoffs, Ross Stores is pushing forward with an aggressive store expansion strategy. The off-price retailer recently opened 23 Ross Dress for Less stores and five dd's Discounts stores across 15 states in February and March. The new locations are part of Ross Stores’ plans to add approximately 70 Ross stores and 20 dd's locations this year. These new openings brings Ross’ brick-and-mortar footprint up to 1,561 Ross Dress for Less and 198 dd's stores across 37 states, the District of Columbia and Guam.
Total Retail’s Take: Finally some positive news to report within the retail industry. Off-price retailers are a bright spot in the struggling retail space. In addition to Ross opening more store locations, TJX reported a 6 percent jump in fourth-quarter revenue. TJX, parent company of T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods, also grew its store base by nearly 6 percent last year — without shuttering a single location.
