Marimekko, a Finnish design company renowned for its original prints and colors, announced that Creative Director Anna Teurnell has stepped down from that position. Teurnell joined Marimekko in 2014 to reinforce the international competitiveness of the company's design management, with special focus on building the ready-to-wear line as the lifestyle brand’s spearhead.
Additionally, Rebekka Bay has been appointed to Marimekko’s board of directors. Bay will support Marimekko’s design and product development team during transition until a new team leader is appointed. She's the head of design and product for Everlane, and previously worked as creative director of Gap Inc. and COS.
“Building on Marimekko’s original, positive and colourful design philosophy, we're going to enhance the commercial prospects of our collections and seek markedly stronger growth than before,” said Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko, Marimekko’s president and CEO.
