I dreaded placing this call. The problem was sales. Despite a fine catalog and steady circulation, sales were tracking below plan. When the cataloger answered the phone, I said, “Well, I’m sorry about sales.”
“Why?” he asked. “We’re very happy with sales.”
“But ... the daily numbers ...”
