Macy’s is reportedly planning to open LensCrafters outposts in 40 percent of its stores by the end of 2017. Eighty locations will be open by the end of this year. The LensCrafters shops will have optometrists on-site, as well as high-end frames from designers including Ray-Ban, Oakley, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Michael Kors and Burberry, Macy's said.
Total Retail’s Take: This fits right in with Macy’s strategy to optimize its retail spaces by partnering with other brands for shops-in-shops. Macy's has leased space to other retailers, like Sunglass Hut and Finish Line, in many stores. A Macy’s spokeswoman said the company likes to partner with specialty retailers selling products that benefit from expertise Macy's doesn't have in-house. Macy’s is closing stores nationwide, so we'll see if this strategy helps to revitalize the stores that are being kept open.
