JOANN Stores, a leading fabric and craft retailer with 869 stores across 49 states and an active e-commerce business, announced today that it's hiring 12,000 temporary employees across the nation for the upcoming holiday season. Among other duties, seasonal team members will help pull merchandise to accommodate orders from JOANN’s buy online, pick up in-store service, which allows users to shop on joann.com and retrieve their items same-day at any local store.
Total Retail’s Take: As competition for holiday shoppers heats up, the battle for seasonal staff has already started. Retail giants including Target, Toys"R"Us, Macy's and Gap, Inc. have already posted thousands of holiday jobs in recent weeks. Unlike other years, many of these jobs will be similar to those JOANN is offering in that they will be focused around retailers’ e-commerce and in-store pick up programs, which signal the success of these omnichannel programs. As more consumers’ shopping behaviors continue to evolve, so too will brick-and-mortar retailers’ labor needs, particularly during the busy holiday season.
