Shopify confirmed this last summer when it released a statistic that would have been unthinkable a decade ago. Data pulled from 100,000 Shopify stores showed that 50.3 percent of that traffic came from mobile devices. However, in the fourth quarter of last year, MarketLive revealed that mobile made up 44.3 percent of e-commerce traffic, but the percentage of shoppers that actually check out on mobile is quite a bit lower. This is especially true when comparing mobile conversion rates to desktop conversion rates. They drop from 3.9 percent for desktop to 1.1 percent for smartphone shoppers and 2.6 percent for tablet shoppers. There are a number of reasons that could account for the discrepancy, such as security concerns and screen size.
