Garnet Hill Launches its First Annual Community Service Day
Franconia, NH, May 21, 2009 — For over 30 years, Garnet Hill has been deeply rooted in the community, participating in a wide array of local and national causes. Garnet Hill continued this legacy by orchestrating and launching its First Annual Community Service Day on Thursday, May 14.
Approximately eighty employees engaged in activities ranging from staining decks and cabins, painting, and building shelves to gardening, clearing trails and repairing cabins at Copper Cannon. All the efforts on the part of Garnet Hill employees and the team at Copper Cannon helped to prepare the camp, which serves underprivileged New Hampshire youth, for the
2009 summer season. Supplies for the clean-up day were donated by Cabot Stain, Exit 41 Rental and Garnet Hill.
“Garnet Hill was pleased to have the opportunity to serve our local community and help Copper Cannon with their clean-up day. It was a great day for the employees to engage with one another outside of work while working to help Copper Cannon,” said Russ Gaitskill, president of Garnet Hill.
Peter Christnacht, executive director of Copper Cannon, shared Russ’s sentiments and added, “Copper Cannon was started by one man’s random act of kindness, giving back to others and expecting nothing in return. The employees of Garnet Hill are continuing that legacy with that same spirit.”
Sandy Hamilton, a Garnet Hill employee, remarked, “It was fun and energizing to watch our huge team arrive en force and make some pretty remarkable changes in only one day! I’m proud to work for a company that can roll up their sleeves, get dirty and have fun while doing it!”
Garnet Hill strongly believes in giving back to the community on both a local and national level. Recent efforts have involved everything from supporting the local food bank and the Support Center at Burch House to supporting national efforts such as the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Canine Companions and K.I.D.S. (Kids In Distressed Situations).
Based on this year’s extraordinary success, plans are well under way for Garnet Hill’s Second Annual Community Service Day, with hopes of making it even bigger and better!
