GameStop has added more than 500 AT&T authorized retail stores to its tech brands business. Cellular World Corp., Midwest Cellular Inc. and Red Sky Wireless Inc. have been acquired to bring GameStop’s total number of AT&T authorized stores to just over 1,400. This move is part of GameStop’s plan to generate $1 billion in revenue over the next three years with its tech brands.
Total Retail’s Take: Another day, another way GameStop is making money. Last month, Pokémon Go helped double sales at some GameStop locations. Now, the retailer is making a name for itself in the mobile space. In 2013, GameStop bought AT&T retailer Spring Mobile that, at that time, had less than 100 stores. GameStop is smart to position itself in the tech and mobile space — the five largest companies in the U.S. in terms of market cap are all tech companies.
