When choosing a value-added marking product for your catalog, evaluate the options based on the size of your book, the type of recipient (a consumer vs. a business-to-business customer), type of binding (saddle stitched vs. perfect bound) and, as always, your budget.
Once you decide on the marking product, you then must promote it to your customers. Baptie says one of the most effective tactics is a cover mention. "Perhaps the first time they're inserted into the catalog, you can create a call-out that brings it to the customer's attention. It's also a good idea to place the flags as far toward the front of the book as possible—page three, just inside the cover is the most popular position."
