Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s finalized their merger this week, announcing the completion of a $4.2 billion deal to combine the two outdoor retailers. Springfield, Missouri-based Bass Pro Shops, which also owns boat maker White River Marine Group and outdoor-themed resorts, has said it will continue to operate Cabela’s as a standalone brand. The deal was first announced in October 2016.
Total Retail’s Take: After initial hiccups in completing the merger, both parties came to an agreement of a lower sale price of $61.50 a share and arranged to split Cabela’s banking unit. This deal is a win-win for both retailers. Bass Pro Shops is expanding its physical footprint and gains access to Cabela's customer database, and Cabela’s, which has seen a decline in sales due to e-commerce competition, is getting a little boost to attract shoppers.
