Amazon.com's Prime Day sale will be held June 21 and June 22, according to records reviewed by Bloomberg News and a person familiar with the matter, as the company tries to get its big summer sale back on schedule after postponing it last year due to the pandemic. Amazon notified employees about the dates and asked them to keep the information confidential until an official announcement in the coming days, according to the records. The company didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Total Retail's Take: With the dates for Prime Day now public, other retailers and brands competing against the online giant will have to quickly put their own marketing plans into motion to capture their share of increased consumer demand during the two-day shopping holiday. Retailers have wisely leveraged Amazon's event to launch their own sales and deals, creating a price war for many product categories. In addition to brands selling on their own platforms, those selling on Amazon's marketplace have big expectations for Prime Day, with 19 percent of Amazon sellers reporting that Prime Day is the “shopping holiday” they see the most sales for their business, according to JungleScout. The clock is ticking, with less than a month till Prime Day. Therefore, retailers and brands will need to quickly ensure they have the right promotions, inventory, and processes in place to meet the demand. A banner Prime Day would be a nice way for the industry to kick-off summer!
