Amazon Partners With San Francisco 49ers on Deliveries for Tailgaters
The San Francisco 49ers announced last week that it has partnered with Amazon.com to offer the team's fans who tailgate before games one-hour Prime Now delivery for tens of thousands of items from Amazon. Fans will be able to order everything from more beer to 49ers gear via the Prime Now app starting four hours before kickoff, and ending 30 minutes after kickoff. The proximity of Levi's Stadium to Amazon’s warehouse in nearby Sunnyvale allowed the online retailer to ink this type of deal with the 49ers. This is Amazon's first Prime Now deal with a NFL team.
Total Retail's Take: San Francisco 49ers fans already watch home games at one of the most high-tech stadiums in sports, and so it makes sense that they now have access to one of the speediest tech-enabled delivery services around. Technology integration taking place in stadiums to improve the experience at sporting events is a growing trend. Last month, for example, Uber and the Miami Dolphins announced a a new premium service called UberTailgate, which lets people reserve tailgate areas with tents, tables, grills and more. For the teams, these types of deals are a way to improve the fan experience at games, particularly at a time when high-definition TVs, social media apps like Twitter, and other technology is keeping many fans at home or at the bar to watch their favorite sports.
