Amazon.com announced its Prime Day online sale will take place on July 15 and July 16, reports Business Insider. Prime members will have access to special deals and thousands of product discounts for a full 48 hours, beginning on July 15 at 12:00 p.m. PT and ending July 16 at 11:59 p.m. PT. Amazon is promising 1 million deals globally and is promising its biggest Prime Day deals ever on Alexa-enabled devices. The company also teased deals-to-come at grocery chain Whole Foods Market as well as new product launches ahead of the event.
Total Retail's Take: Amazon has seen exponential growth in Prime Day sales since the event launched in 2015, topping an estimated $4.1 billion in 2018. However, Amazon isn't the only brand profiting from the mid-summer shopping holiday, as Prime Day also buoys other online retailers during the sale. Tom Caporaso, CEO of Clarus Commerce, comments that "last year, 63 percent of Prime Day shoppers said they visited competing websites to compare prices." As consumers search for the best deals on Prime Day, there's a "huge opportunity for online retailers to capitalize on the spike in traffic and provide consumers personalized and targeted offerings and exclusive deals." Other retailers should be working on their plans to grab their share of consumer attention and purchases during the shopping event by launching promotions ahead of Prime Day as well as creating more personalized offers for customers.
