Despite the fact that many Black Friday sales begin tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day, more than 75 well-known retailers will be closed for the holiday. A list of all of the retailers that will be closed on Thanksgiving Day — including leaders such as Costco, Neiman Marcus, and T.J.Maxx — can be found on BestBlackFriday.com, a website that compiles Black Friday deals for consumers. The main reason retailers close their stores, according to BestBlackFriday.com, is to give their employees and customers a chance to enjoy Thanksgiving Day with their families without having to worry about working and shopping. Many retailers, however, are opening on Thanksgiving, and you can find that list here. As the list shows, many leading retailers, including Wal-Mart, Target, J.C. Penney, and Macy's, are opening their doors on Thanksgiving this year.
Total Retail's Take: Just because many retail stores are closed tomorrow, it doesn't mean brands aren't poised and ready for the expected holiday rush of customers. And while there's been a lot of negative news within the retail industry this year, nearly 70 percent of Americans, or 164 million people, plan to shop during Thanksgiving weekend, according to an annual survey by the National Retail Federation (NRF). The NRF's survey of more than 7,000 consumers also found that Black Friday will still hold the title as busiest shopping day of the year, with 70 percent of people planning to hit the stores. Next is Cyber Monday, with 48 percent of people set to shop online that day. What’s more, 20 percent of consumers, or 32 million people, plan to start shopping tomorrow. Check out the Total Retail Report on Friday, where we will have a roundup of Thanksgiving Day and up-to-the minute Black Friday retail news. However, like those 75-plus retailers, Total Retail Report won't be published tomorrow, giving us the chance to enjoy the holiday with our families and loved ones. Happy Thanksgiving!
