Last week, Instagram introduced Stories, a "Snapchat-like" feature that enables the social platform's 500 million monthly users to curate daily moments that disappear after 24 hours. Retailers have been flocking to the new feature, which offers better visibility for brands than Snapchat. Up until Instagram Stories was released, Snapchat was considered the social media darling of Gen Z. Now brands are embracing the intimate 10-second video shares on Instagram, hoping to win back the attention the platform once generated for marketers. Here are five retailers taking advantage of Instagram Stories, as well as a guide on how you can to.
Lowe's
Continuing with its innovative social strategy, Lowe's is now offering video how-tos on Instagram. Viewers watching the 10-second clips can learn how to install a shower head, DIY a new creative way to display shoes or fix a side table. The home improvement retailer is using some already created Snapchat videos on Instagram (a feature many retailers are taking advantage of).
BarkBox
The monthly subscription box service for dog treats and toys has been entertaining its audience through storytelling on Instagram. Recently, it put together a cute story consisting of multiple clips from a "doggie interview" between an employee and a pug. It was hilarious, adorable and true to brand. With creative help from its employees, BarkBox has been able to tell humorous, engaging stories that help it stand apart from its competition.
Sephora
The beauty retailer was one of the first brands to use Instagram Stories, offering exclusive behind-the-scenes looks at its upcoming makeup tutorials. In recent years, Sephora has made strides to become a digital-first brand. Well known for giving exclusive deals and content to loyal social media followers, Sephora is capitalizing on its growing Instagram audience.
J.Crew
The traditional brick-and-mortar retailer has had its issues with digital, however, the brand's Instagram Stories game has been on point. The most important thing J.Crew does in using Instagram Stories is stay true to its larger creative vision, keeping a cohesive message for the brand.
Stitch Fix
The subscription-based apparel startup uses Instagram Stories for giving its followers daily styling tips and trends. Followers can find behind-the-scenes tips from stylists as well as ways to curate outfits, along with other blog-like content. The video component of Instagram helps Stitch Fix better reach millennials on their preferred social media network.
