Last June, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced it was opening up the opportunity for companies to establish new generic top-level domain (gTLD) names — think .com, .gov, .net, etc. After gathering applications for the first five months of this year, ICANN revealed the list of the 1,930 applications. Amazon.com is prominently featured on that list.
