GameStop's Q4 Profit Plummets 27%, Plans Fewer Stores in 2012

Video game retailer GameStop reported that profit for the quarter ended Jan. 28 dropped 27 percent to $174.7 million from $237.8 million in the year-ago period. Adjusted profit, however, matched predictions, as results included $64.6 million in asset impairment and restructuring charges. 

Dollar General to Open 625 Stores in 2012

Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based Dollar General Corp. plans to open approximately 625 new stores, including 40 Dollar General Market stores, in 2012. The company also plans to remodel or relocate a total of approximately 550 stores. Square footage is expected to increase by about 7 percent. Approximately 80 stores are expected to open in new markets, including California, Nevada, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Kohl's to Sell American Idol Clothes Line

Kohl's will start selling an exclusive "American Idol" clothing line in April, the department store said. The collection, called Authentic Icon, will be available in stores through June to coincide with the 11th season of the show.

Columbus, Ohio -- The Limited on Friday will open a 4,300-sq.-ft. store in Westfield Galleria Mall, Roseville, Calif., one of four new locations the chain will open this year in California. Ross Agrees to Pay Penalty Over Hiring Allegations

Ross Stores agreed to pay about $17,000 to resolve allegations it discriminated against foreigners during its hiring process, the Justice Department said. Management at a San Ysidro, Calif. store was accused of improperly requiring a job applicant to provide the company with a green card even though she was cleared to work in the U.S. and had provided a valid alternate form of ID.

Securities Fraud Lawsuit Against Best Buy Dismissed

Best Buy said that the U.S. District Court has dismissed putative securities fraud class actions against the retailer and three of its officers. With regard to the class-action lawsuit filed last year, the court dismissed all counts for lack of substantiation. "We have maintained since the beginning of this case that the allegations are wholly without merit," said Keith Nelsen, executive vice president and general counsel for Best Buy. "We are pleased that the courtโ€™s decision has vindicated Best Buy and its officers of the unfounded accusations in the plaintiffs' complaint."

Old Navy Apologizes for Lead-Filled Spider-Man Rain Jacket
