Stage Stores CEO resigns

Houston -- Stage Stores said Thursday that its president and CEO Andy Hall has resigned to pursue other interests, and will be replaced in the interim by Michael Glazer, a member of the company's board since 2001. Glazer is currently the president and CEO at Mattress Giant Corp., based in Addison, Texas. He previously served as managing director of Team Neu, a private equity firm, and he was also president and CEO of KB Toys Inc. Stage Stores said it has already begun the search for a permanent CEO and the candidates will include Glazer.

eBay's iPad app now highlights products based on what you are watching E-commerce giant eBay has added a new feature to its iPad app, which allows users to shop for products based on what they are watching on TV. On logging into the โ€œWatch with eBayโ€ tab, users are invited to enter in their zip code, cable provider, TV channel and the program they are currently watching. Best Buy has announced as part of its dismal quarterly earnings report that it's closing 50 of its 1,100 U.S. stores this year, while testing smaller tech support-centric "connected stores" in San Antonio and Minneapolis. As part of its restructuring, it will also lay off 400 corporate and support workers in order to slash $800 million in costs and turn around its struggling business model.

Carphone Warehouse to close all Best Buy stores in the UK

Best Buy had targeted to launch 200 stores in Europe Following 18 months of "challenging economic conditions," Carphone Warehouse has decided to close all 11 Best Buy electronics stores across the UK. The phone retailer joined forces with Best Buy in 2008, when Best Buy paid ยฃ1.1 billion, for a 50% stake in the retailer. Carphone Warehouse helped to establish Best Buy Europe, and the group was hoping to eventually have 200 big-box stores across the continent. The first store opened in Thurrock, Essex in April 2010, and stores followed in Liverpool, Derby, Bristol, Nottingham, Rotherham, Dudley and Southampton.
