Sephora Patterns Itself After Apple's Retail Model

Sephora gave itself a digital makeover yesterday, as the global beauty chain launched iPads and iPods in its stores and integrated its website with the popular social networking platform Pinterest. The makeup chain looked to Apple's super successful retail stores as its model, said Julie Bornstein, senior vice president of Sephora Digital. All 305 Sephora makeup stores are equipped with iPod touches that provide a mobile point-of-sale option for customers, helping to mitigate the sometimes long lines that form in its stores.

Home Depot Theft Ring Busted

An organized retail theft ring that targeted 70 Home Depot stores in six states has been taken down by a multiagency task force after the arrest of three men in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Two other suspects are still being sought. According to New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa, the alleged shoplifters committed thefts at multiple stores per day, stealing hundreds of dollars in merchandise by “under-ringing” it through self-checkout areas. They allegedly engaged in over 500 illegal transactions resulting in estimated losses that exceeded $100,000. 

Sears Canada launches smartphone app

Sears Canada is officially the country's first department store to put a fully transactional mobile website online as it recently launched its apps for iPhone and Android smartphones, according to a company press release. Canadian consumers now have instant access to the more than 80,000 products available on its website at Sears.ca. eBay Sends Coupons to Buyers Affected by Glitch

When eBay buyers were unable to pay sellers with PayPal one day last week, it was a big deal — PayPal is practically mandatory on the online marketplace. On Saturday, eBay executive Christopher Payne sent an email to sellers informing them that eBay had sent buyers who were affected by the glitch a coupon. Of special interest to sellers was his promise that eBay would automatically remove negative feedback for transactions affected by the glitch.

Tuesday Morning sales fall in Q3

Dallas -- Tuesday Morning Corp. reported Tuesday that same-store sales for the quarter ended Mar. 31 dropped 3.2% on spending and traffic decreases. According to the discount retailer, traffic dipped 1.8% for the third quarter and average tickets fell 1.4%. Total revenue edged down 1% to $172.7 million, compared with $174.3 million in the year-ago period.
