Study Reveals New Revenue Potential for Retailers

Acxiom Corporation, a marketing services and technology provider, announced its latest Consumer Dynamics study, "What Your Customer Is Buying When Not Buying From You," which highlights consumer spending potential for major retail categories. The study analyzed consumer purchase data from multiple retailers across the country for a variety of retail categories. The final product, a series of retail spend indicators, enables retailers to see beyond their own purchase data to estimate their customersโ€™ total category spend. These indicators enable retailers to more accurately determine share of wallet and to prioritize promotional expenditures.

Elle Tries F-Commerce, Launches Shoppable Trend Guide

Elle has launched a shoppable trend guide on Facebook in the latest e-commerce initiative within the magazine industry. The guide, embedded as a tab on Elle's Facebook page, invites shoppers to navigate six editorially chosen spring trends, including floral, nautical and ladylike. Users can click โ€œlove,โ€ โ€œwant, โ€œownโ€ or โ€œbuy!โ€ on each product page. By default, all interactions with the app are shared automatically on their Facebook Timeline, so even if users donโ€™t make a purchase, they can inadvertently draw curious friends in to interact with the app. Users can also click to buy each product on the retailerโ€™s website.

Apple Stores Perform 17 Times Better Than US Retail Average

New sales data from brick-and-mortar retail outlets reveals that Apple Stores see some 17 times more sales than the national average and lead all U.S. retail chains in sales per square foot. Market analytics firm Asymco, drawing from raw data provided by RetailSails, notes that Apple Stores worldwide smashed the average sales numbers posted by other U.S. chains, raking in $5,626 per square foot in the four quarters ending in August 2011. Apple's performance nearly doubled that of first runner up Tiffany & Co. and was seven times more efficient than the median of the top 20 retailers.
