Wolverine Worldwide announced that it, along with Blum Capital Partners and Golden Gate Capital, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Collective Brands. Destination Maternity Announces New Partnership With Bed Bath & Beyond and Buy Buy Baby

Destination Maternity announced its new broad-based partnership with Bed Bath & Beyond and its subsidiary, Buy Buy Baby. In addition, Destination Maternity expects that its Motherhood Maternity and A Pea in the Pod branded maternity and nursing apparel will be available for sale in select Buy Buy Baby stores beginning in November 2012. Growth in Mother's Day Sales, Foot Traffic Forecasted

Consumers are expected to shop and buy more in the week leading up to Mother's Day than they did last year, according to a new ShopperTrak survey. As Mother's Day sales and traffic historically are a bright spot in the retail calendar, national retail sales this year are projected to rise 6 percent in the week leading up to Mother's Day and foot traffic will increase 3.7 percent compared with the same period last year, ShopperTrak said. The fact that Mother's Day falls one week later on the calendar than last year may positively affect sales, ShopperTrak noted.

Retailers Using Pinterest to Drive Traffic, Sales

A large percentage of U.S. retailers have created Pinterest pinboards and are using this community to successfully drive web traffic and generate sales. While Facebook and Twitter users have considered business activities invasive in their social spaces, the Pinterest community is perfectly happy to view and repin the images posted on retailers’ Pinterest boards. HSN profit rises in Q1

St. Petersburg, Fla. -- Multichannel shopping retailer HSN Inc. reported Wednesday that net income for the quarter ended March 31 climbed 29% to $26.2 million, from $20.3 million in the year-ago period. Results were boosted by robust sales from its Cornerstone unit, which includes banners such as Ballard Design, Frontgate and TravelSmith. Revenue overall rose 5% to $747.3 million. Cornerstone saw an 11% sales rise to $205.4 million. HSN segment sales were up 3% to $541.9 million.

American Apparel Closes Factory to March for Immigration Reform

American Apparel, which has long advocated for comprehensive immigration reform and criticized the apartheid-like treatment of undocumented workers, closed its factory yesterday for several hours so its workers could join a march and related pro-worker activities in Los Angeles. Tuesday Morning Corporation Announces Third Quarter 2012 Results

(GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tuesday Morning Corporation today reported that, as previously announced, net sales for the third quarter of fiscal 2012 were $172.7 million compared to $174.3 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2011, a decrease of 0.9%. Comparable store sales decreased 3.2% for the third quarter of fiscal 2012 as compared to the same period last year. CVS Caremark Q1 profit rises, sales reach record high

Woonsocket, R.I. -- CVS Caremark reported Wednesday that profit for the quarter ended March 31 rose 9% to $776 million, compared with $713 million in the year-ago period. Revenues surged 20% to a record $30.8 billion boosted by rival Walgreen’s termination of its Express Scripts program, which moved Walgreen customers over to CVS. The results beat Wall Street’s expected $30.3 billion in revenue for the quarter. Same-store sales climbed more than 8%.

Target to stop selling Amazon’s Kindle line

New York -- Target will soon stop selling the Amazon Kindle line of e-readers and tablets. Target representative Molly Snyder said the company is "phasing out Kindles and Amazon- and Kindle-branded products in the spring of 2012,” in a report on CNNMoney.com. The retailer has declined to comment on the specific date or the reason that the products will no longer be on its shelves. The chain will continue to sell other e-readers, including the Barnes and Noble’s Nook.
