BRASELTON, GA (CBS ATLANTA) - Carter's Inc. is hiring 250 people at a job fair in Braselton on Wednesday. The job fair started at 8 a.m., but applicants started lining up at 4 a.m. Carter's is the largest branded marketer of baby and young children's apparel in the U.S. Carter's plans to open its new national distribution center in Braselton in June. The 1 million-square-foot facility will support the company's e-commerce, retail and wholesale businesses. iTunes and QVC Have the Highest Open Rates, 4 Gap Brands Among the 10 Brands With the Best Inbox Delivery

We picked 23 of Internet Retailer's top 25 companies (from the IR 500) and looked at 50 brands that these companies own to find the best overall inbox delivery and open rates over the last 90 days. Piperlime.com, with 99 percent inbox delivery, and Banana Republic and iTunes at 98 percent, were at the absolute top of the inbox delivery range. Kmart, HP, Gap, Netflix, Old Navy, Best Buy and Bath & Body Works all follow closely behind with delivery in the 97th percentile.

Piperlime to Open First Brick-and-Mortar Store This Fall

Online apparel retailer Piperlime announced it will open its first retail store this fall in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City. The new 4,000 square-foot store will offer a similar curated assortment as online, immersing consumers in the brand's unique shopping experience. "Our customers have been asking for a place where they can experience Piperlime in person, and New York is the perfect location for this," said Jennifer Gosselin, senior vice president and general manager of Piperlime. 

eBay Sells Classifieds Site Rent.com

eBay sold its Rent.com classifieds subsidiary to PRIMEDIA, a resource for apartment and rental home information and listings. eBay had announced the agreement to sell the company in March. Rent.com launched nationally in October 2001, and eBay acquired the site in 2004 - the same year it acquired Mobile.de, a car classifieds site in Germany and a stake in Craigslist.org. eBay paid approximately $385 million in eBay common stock and $30 million in cash. Terms of the sale this month were not disclosed.

Amazon Leads Host of Retailers in Online Customer Satisfaction Index

A record 36 of the top 100 online retailers achieved the "threshold for excellence" in the annual Top 100 E-Retail Satisfaction Index from customer experience analytics firm ForeSee. Scores of 80 or higher on ForeSee's 100-point scale are considered superior customer satisfaction performances. In 2010 and 2011, 28 websites achieved this distinction, while in 2009 only six websites cleared the mark. E-commerce stalwart Amazon.com continues to set the bar higher, climbing three points to 89, and four points higher than the second highest scoring websites, Apple.com (85) and QVC.com (85).

Retail Employee Turnover Increasing, Study Finds

Management consulting firm Hay Group reported yesterday that employee turnover levels in the retail industry are on the rise. According to a new survey from Hay Group, an improving job market and solid first-quarter sales are impacting turnover. Retailers report a median turnover rate of 67 percent for part-time store workers, a 33 percent increase over 2011. One in five retailers report that they've experienced more turnover in the first part of 2012.

From iPads and mobile apps to social networking and location-based marketing, retailers are betting on technology and trying to be "liked" to sell more stuff. Sears emphasized technology at its annual shareholder meeting in Hoffman Estates, Ill.  last week. It trotted out a sales associate from a nearby store to demonstrate how tablets are used to connect with customers and extend the relationship digitally after they leave the store.
