Levi's, Gap Garment Workers in Cambodia on Strike for Pay Increase

Workers at a Cambodian garment factory that makes clothes for Levi's, Gap and other well-known international brands are striking for more pay and better working conditions. More than 5,000 workers from the Singaporean-owned SL Garment Processing (Cambodia) Ltd. failed to reach an agreement with their employers Tuesday to end an 11-day strike. Ath Thon, director of the Coalition of Cambodian Apparel Workers, said workers are demanding an increase in their base pay of $61 a month for 8-hour days, six days a week. He said they want a $5 salary hike and an extra $25 a month for transportation and housing.

Sunglass Hut to open largest store in Miami Beach

TJX Makes Store Infrastructure Investments

DOJ: Home Depot Settles Over its Firing of Iraq War Veteran

The U.S. Department of Justice said it reached a settlement with Home Depot over allegations it illegally fired Army National Guard soldier Brian Bailey. The Justice Department's complaint accused the retailer of willfully violating the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 when it terminated Bailey, an Iraq War veteran, in 2010 because he took too many absences to fulfill his service obligations. As part of the settlement, Home Depot will pay Bailey $45,000 in monetary relief and make changes to its military leaves of absence policy. Additionally, the company denied all allegations made in the complaint.

Hunger Games boosts Books-A-Million's 1Q results

Books-A-Million Inc. (Nasdaq: BAMM) today reported that it trimmed its losses in the first quarter, partly thanks to the popular book series, the Hunger Games. The Birmingham-based book retailer said its net loss improved to $1.9 million in the first quarter from a loss of $3.4 million in the same quarter of 2011.
