Ahead of Big Retail Push, PayPal Inks Deals With Top Hardware Vendors

In advance of the company’s press conference today, Paypal is announcing that it's secured partnerships with three of the top point-of-sale providers, giving it access to nearly 40 million terminals worldwide. The partnerships are important because it makes rolling out its in-store payments technology to retailers much easier. To date, PayPal deployed its service to all 2,000 Home Depots, but it has a long way to go in meeting its goal of having 20 major retailers by the end of the year.

Costco profit rises 19% in Q3, on track to open stores this year

Google: Search Queries for Garden Equipment Rose in March

An unusually mild winter this year (along with with a recovering economy) resulted in an earlier jump in search queries for garden, patio and outdoor equipment. By mid-March, query volume on Google for the outdoor and patio category had already reached May 2011 levels. Many advertisers benefited from this earlier spike in interest though more sales earlier in the year. Those who succeeded most were the ones with competitive search bids and daily budgets that were already set up to capture demand when it occurred, regardless of the time of year.

Burberry to Invest in New, Bigger Stores

British luxury brand Burberry hopes to insulate itself against global economic headwinds by investing in bigger stores in major cities such as London, Chicago and Hong Kong that are popular both with tourists and the super rich. Reporting another jump in profit on Wednesday, Burberry said it would invest up to 200 million pounds ($316 million) in the business over the coming year with about one-third of it going towards larger format outlets, including a relocated store on London's Regent Street and a rebuild in Chicago.
