eBay and PayPal may be forced to hand over seller records without disclosing the fact to the sellers. Yahoo's Motoramic blog reported on the unusual legal case brought by Ford involving the alleged sale of counterfeit goods on eBay. "Ford Motor Co. wants eBay and PayPal to turn over data on 13 users the automaker accuses of selling fake or unlicensed Ford parts on the online auction site, including names, addresses and bank accounts — and won a court order blocking eBay and PayPal from revealing Ford's demand to the users targeted."

Express, a specialty retail apparel chain operating more than 600 stores, today announced that its board of directors has authorized the company to repurchase up to $100 million of company common stock. The repurchase program will be funded using the company's available cash and is expected to be executed over the next 18 months. Michael Weiss, chairman, president and CEO, stated: "Our board believes that at the current price our stock is undervalued based on many criteria, including the long-term growth prospects for the company, and that the repurchase program is an effective means to enhance shareholder value."
Sears is encouraging customer feedback for the products it sells by offering shoppers the chance to vote for their favorite participating charity every time they post a product review. Through its "Love/Hate: Share Your Thoughts, Send Some Love" project, Sears is offering customers the chance to share their opinion — good or bad — on products and in return vote for one of four charities to receive a grand prize of $100,000. The participating charities competing for the grand prize include the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, World Vision and World Wildlife Fund.

The program is available at all Kmart stores nationwide and accepts bill payment from more than 3,000 companies — everything from electric, gas and cable bills to credit card statements and auto loans. Through Kmart's new bill pay program, customers are able to pay thousands of bills for $1.50 or less per transaction with cash or a PIN-based debit card at any Kmart store nationwide.
You'd think on the heels of Tesco's decision to cut performance bonuses for its store managers there really wasn't anything else the chain's CEO could do but turn down his own. But the relative rarity of top executives doing the right thing has made Philip Clarke's decision to pass on $587,000 a big news item. "I decided at the beginning of the year that I would decline my annual bonus for 2012," Clarke said in a statement. "I wasn't satisfied with the performance in the U.K. and I won't take the bonus. I'm confident that we're tackling the right issues."
