Tiffany to Open 24 Stores in 2012

New York-based Tiffany & Co. plans to open 20 additional company-operated stores in 2012. The company opened four new stores in the first quarter in Mexico City, Montreal, Salt Lake City and Wuhan, China. The remaining 20 stores are slated to open across the Americas, the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and the United Arab Emirates. Currently, the company operates 251 stores, including 105 in the Americas, 59 in the Asia-Pacific, 55 in Japan and 32 in Europe. Talbots Falls 22% In Premarket On Scuttled Deal

Talbots Inc. said Friday it will actively explore other strategic alternatives after Sycamore Partners said it won't buy the retailer. A May 5 exclusivity agreement with Sycamore Partners has expired and Talbots said it remains open to pursuing a transaction with the firm at $3.05 a share. Sycamore "informed the company that it is not prepared to execute a transaction at this time," Talbots said.

Merrimack, N.H. -- Brookstone said it has hired Stephen Bebis as its new president and CEO, effective immediately. Bebis is the founder of Golf Town and served as its president and CEO for 14 years. Rue21 profit up 21% in first quarter

Warrendale, Pa. -- Rue21 reported Thursday that profit for the quarter ended April 28 rose 20.6% to $11.6 million, from $9.6 million in the same quarter last year. Net sales increased 18.9% to $205.6 million, from $172.9 million. Same-store sales for the quarter edged up 1.7%. Bob Fisch, president and CEO said the company is staying its small- and mid-market growth course. “Through our real estate expansion we are gaining market share in small and mid-size markets around the country,” he said.

Macy’s in Deal With Online Retailer in China

Macy's will start selling some of its private brand merchandise directly to shoppers in China through a deal with an online retailer there. Macy's products will be available via a branded section on Omei.com, a newly established China-based online retailer of in-season luxury and fashion brands operated by VIPStore Co., a Chinese e-commerce firm and parent company of Omei.com. In addition, Macy’s has made an equity investment of $15 million in VIPStore. Macy’s joins other venture capital providers, including Intel Capital, in acquiring a minority stake in the company.
