eBay Sellers Will Have Day in Court over PayPal Monopoly Claim

Does eBay monopolize payments through its PayPal unit? Sellers filed a class action lawsuit claiming it does. Courthouse News reports that a judge rejected eBay's motion to dismiss the lawsuit in an unpublished order Tuesday. The report appears to be referring to the Smith v eBay lawsuit filed in April 2010 in which eBay seller Charlotte Smith sued eBay over its policy that forces sellers to use its PayPal online payment service.

Eddie Bauer announced that Michael R. Egeck has been named its President and Chief Executive Officer. Egeck was most recently CEO of Hurley International LLC, a leading marketer of action sports and youth lifestyle apparel, and a division of Nike, Inc. David Chamberlain, Executive Chairman of Eddie Bauer who has served as Interim CEO since February, will remain a member of the companys board of directors. 

Dollar General Q1 Profit Jumps 36%; On Track for 625 New Stores and 550 Remodels

Dollar General Corp. on Monday reported a 36% jump in quarterly profit and raised its expectations for the year as its momentum continued. Dollar General earned $213.4 million in the fiscal first quarter ended on May 4, up from $157.0 million a year earlier. Sales rose 13% to $3.9 billion. Same-store sales increased 6.7%. Dollar General is starting off 2012 with strong performance in the first quarter due to excellent same-store sales growth of 6.7%, representing the fifth consecutive quarter of accelerating improvement,” said Rick Dreiling, chairman and CEO.
