How Lowe's Personalizes its Customers’ Experiences With Cross-Channel Profiles

Late last year, Lowe's Chief Information Officer Mike Brown led an effort to help customers manage home-related data, including receipts, appliance manuals and service warranties. According to a report in Bloomberg, "Customers will be able to scan a special card to monitor transactions, create room-by-room profiles of their homes and plan projects with store employees."

U.S. Retail Sales Decline for Second Straight Month

Retail sales in the U.S. fell in May for a second straight month as slower employment and subdued wage gains damped demand, a sign the world’s largest economy is cooling. The 0.2 percent decrease followed a similar decline in April that was previously reported as a gain, Commerce Department figures showed today in Washington, D.C. Last month’s drop matched the median forecast of 79 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News. Sales excluding automobiles slumped by the most in two years. 

PayPal Partners With Comcast, Tivo to Power Commerce Over TV

How about buying products directly through your television using the remote control? PayPal announced it's working with television service providers to help power "television commerce," aka tcommerce. PayPal has entered into agreements with Comcast and TiVo as it tries to establish itself as a payment method for purchases made over the television.

Zumiez Inc, a retailer of action sports related apparel, footwear, equipment and accessories, has reported that comparable store sales for the four-week period ended May 26, 2012, were up 13.72%, compared to a 7.8% increase for the four-week period ended May 28, 2011. Total net sales for the four-week period ended May 26, 2012 were $37.4 million, a 23.6% increase from $30.3 million for the same period ended May 28, 2011. As of May 26, 2012 the company operated 448 stores in the US and 11 stores in Canada, which are located in shopping malls.

Bankrupt RoomStore Selling Assets

The Goochland County-based retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last December. It's asked a federal bankruptcy court judge to approve the asset sale. The auction would be held June 25. RoomStore President and CEO Stephen Giordano tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch that the company is being offered for sale as a whole or in parts. Bid packages were sent to potential buyers last week.
