Kaleen Launches App, Catalog, New Website

DALTON, Ga.–As part of its 2012 “Access Kaleen” campaign, rug manufacturer Kaleen has released its first application for the iPhone, along with its newest catalog and an updated website. The website, kaleen.com, has become more user friendly, said Joe Barkley, executive vice president. It eliminates the number of clicks one would have to make to visit certain pages, he said. And users can now enter orders and download POP labels. IPhone users can also download Kaleen’s first app for the iPhone, making Kaleen’s product line available on the go. At Lowe's in Gaithersburg, Assistant Store Manager Chad Wallace can whip out an iPhone to look up whether any item at the home improvement store is in stock. "It's been a great tool for helping customers right there on the spot," Wallace said. "A lot of customers are impressed that we're able to use the phone to scan something on the shelf and find out the quantity." The store has about 25 mobile devices outfitted with store applications that allow employees to ring up sales, view competitors' prices and track inventory without leaving a customer's side.

Nordstrom Eyes E-Commerce Deal

More than a year after it bought shopping website HauteLook, Nordstrom is considering another acquisition in the e-commerce space. Nordstrom doesn't have a history of making acquisitions, but Chief Financial Officer Mike Koppel told The Daily Deal that the high-end department store chain doesn't "claim to have all the answers when it comes to e-commerce." Koppel declined to say which assets the retailer might be targeting, only that it would be in the e-commerce sector.

More Than 39 Million Americans to Buy E-Gifts This Year

CashStar announced the results of its first Father's Day Gifting survey. The survey examined consumers’ desires for and expectations of e-gifts and found that more than 39 million Americans plan to purchase an e-gift card for Father's Day or another holiday this year, which reinforces the growth of this multibillion dollar market. Oscar de la Renta to Develop Retail Side of Business

New York-based Oscar de la Renta is expanding the retail side of its business, according to Women's Wear Daily. This fall, its Madison Avenue flagship will double in size to 4,000 sq. ft., and the company will open its first-ever location in London. Additionally, after the success of the designer’s compact boutique format in the Dominican Republic’s Punta Cana, the company is considering using a similar concept in more locales. Oscar de la Renta also is considering a retail presence in airports, and perhaps a stand-alone bridal store. Currently, the company operates 13 retail locations.
